Full Lyrics
Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And said "What a nice day!"
Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And they became friends that day!
About This Song
"Little Miss Muffet" is a classic English nursery rhyme that first appeared in print in 1805 in a book called Songs for the Nursery. The rhyme tells the story of a young girl who is frightened away from her meal by a spider.
According to popular legend, the rhyme was written by Dr. Thomas Muffet (1553β1604), an English naturalist who was fascinated by insects. His stepdaughter, Patience, may have been the inspiration for "Little Miss Muffet." A "tuffet" is a small grassy mound or low stool, while "curds and whey" refers to a dish similar to cottage cheese.
The rhyme is often used to help children overcome their fear of spiders, especially when sung with the friendlier alternative endings where Miss Muffet and the spider become friends!
